During the colonial period the tea industry established by the British people, built luxurious bungalows for them as residences. Even after independence in 1948, these estates were managed by the private sector, after that the State Plantations Corporation was established. During the State Plantations Corporation, this bungalow was the residence of the Board Director. The Plantation Housing & Social Welfare Trust (PHSWT) was established in 1992 with the privatization of state estates. Since then, this institution has been operating as the Galle Regional office of Plantations Human Development Trust
