They Have Lost Everything. Together, We Can Help Them Rise Again.
In the wake of the recent floods and landslides in Sri Lanka, our plantation communities are facing one of the darkest moments in their history. Families who have lived for generations in these estates watched their homes collapse, their belongings washed away, and the places they once felt safe turned into ruin within minutes.
Mothers now cradle their children under makeshift sheets, unsure where they will sleep tomorrow. Fathers search through the mud hoping to salvage even a single item that survived. Children who once played freely now stand frightened, surrounded by destruction they cannot understand.
These families are not just statistics—they are our people, our community, our responsibility.
The Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) has begun rapid assessment and immediate relief operations across affected estates. However, the scale of destruction is immense, and rebuilding these communities requires collective support.
Urgent Needs Identified
Based on current assessments, the following are urgently required to restore safety, dignity, and stability for affected plantation families:
-
2,000 New Housing Units
-
500 Upgraded Line Rooms
-
10,000 Temporary Re-roofing Sheets for Emergency Shelters
-
15 km of Road Reconstruction
-
1,000 meters of Retaining Walls
-
125 Culverts & 20 Bridges
-
8 New Child Development Centers & Upgrading of 20 Existing Centers
-
500 meters of Footpaths
-
800 Toilets for Affected Households
These are not just numbers—they represent families in distress, children without safe spaces, and communities facing the challenge of rebuilding from the ground up.
