The Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) successfully hosted its Stakeholder Forum on 16th May 2025 at the Grand 7 Restaurant, Thalawathugoda. The forum served as a vital platform to engage stakeholders in dialogue on health, social development, and future initiatives impacting plantation communities in Sri Lanka.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sarath Amunugama, Director – Health, PHDT, who emphasized the significance of collective action and partnerships in enhancing the well-being of plantation residents.
Two impactful guest presentations followed:
Humedica delivered an informative session on “Community First Responder’s Training (CFRT)” focusing on the importance of equipping communities with basic emergency response skills.
ADIC presented on “Child Wellbeing through Alcohol Reduction” shedding light on the broader social and developmental implications of reducing alcohol-related harm in plantation areas.
A key highlight of the event was the presentation on the “Current Status and Future Initiatives” of PHDT by Mr. L.R. Perera, Director General – PHDT. His address outlined strategic developments, ongoing projects, and a forward-looking vision for integrated health and social welfare programs across the plantation sector.

A special Scholarship Awards Ceremony was held during the event, recognizing 31 outstanding students from the plantation community who have secured university admission. The awards reflect PHDT’s continued commitment to empowering youth through education.
The forum concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Mr. D. Venmathirajah, Consultant – PHDT, who acknowledged the contributions of all participants, presenters, and sponsors.
