The Director General of the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) conducted an official visit to Rangalla Estate on February 6, 2025, to inspect key development projects and assess ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing the living standards of the estate community.

During the visit, the Director General carried out a comprehensive inspection of the following facilities:

  1. Community Development Center (CDC): The CDC serves as a vital hub for social, educational, and skill development activities for estate residents. The inspection focused on its current operations, infrastructure, and potential areas for improvement to better serve the community.
  1. Indian Housing Project (IHP) Site: As part of the commitment to improving housing conditions for plantation workers, the Director General reviewed the progress of the Indian Housing Project site. The inspection aimed to ensure that the construction and allocation of houses align with the project’s objectives of providing quality housing and improved living environments.
  1. Dispensary: Healthcare access remains a priority for PHDT, and the estate dispensary was inspected to evaluate its facilities, medical supplies, and service delivery. The visit emphasized the importance of maintaining a well-equipped and functional healthcare unit to cater to the needs of estate residents.
  1. Disaster Housing: Given the need for secure and resilient housing in times of natural disasters or emergencies, the Director General assessed the disaster housing facilities. The inspection aimed to ensure that these shelters are adequately maintained and prepared to provide safe accommodations when needed.

The visit provided an opportunity for direct engagement with estate management, project stakeholders, and residents to discuss challenges, progress, and future improvements. PHDT remains committed to uplifting the plantation community through sustainable development initiatives, improved housing, and better healthcare services. The Director General’s visit to Rangalla Estate reaffirmed PHDT’s dedication to the welfare and progress of estate communities, ensuring a better quality of life for all residents.
