On the 26th of January 2025, the Honorable K. V. Samantha Viddyarathna, Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure undertook an inspection visit to the Kabaragala Estate (Maturata Plantations Ltd) , Lower Division, with a specific focus on assessing a disaster-affected line room. The primary objective of this visit was to evaluate the extent of damage caused and to determine the necessary steps for recovery and support.
The inspection was attended by key stakeholders including the Regional Director of PHDT-Nuwaraeliya, the Estate Manager, the In charge of Engineering Assistant, and the Assistant community development officer (ACDO). Their presence underscored the collaborative effort to address the challenges faced by the affected plantation community and to strategize for rehabilitation measures.
During the visit, the Minister engaged with local authorities and community representatives to gain firsthand insights into the impact of the disaster on the Kabaragala Estate community. Discussions also centered around immediate relief efforts and long-term reconstruction plans aimed at restoring normalcy and ensuring the well-being of the affected plantation residents.
The Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to providing necessary resources and support to mitigate the hardships faced by those affected. Additionally, plans were discussed to enhance disaster preparedness measures in similar vulnerable areas to minimize future risks and ensure the safety and security of plantation communities.
