We are pleased to report the successful completion of the ILO Advocacy Meeting for Estate Managers and Assistant Managers, which took place on 18th July 2024 at Hotel Grand Guardian, Kuruwita. The event brought together key stakeholders from various sectors to discuss and advocate for enhanced practices and policies within the plantations industry.

Key Discussions and Outcomes

Advocacy and Policy Development:

Participants engaged in productive discussions on current policies affecting estate management and workers’ welfare. There was a unanimous agreement on the need for updated and more inclusive policies to address the evolving challenges in the sector.

Health and Safety Improvements:

The Regional Director of Health Service, Ratnapura, highlighted recent health initiatives and called for enhanced safety standards in estate operations. The discussions underscored the importance of continuous health and safety training for all estate workers.

Collaboration and Networking:

The meeting served as an excellent platform for networking, allowing estate managers and assistant managers to connect with health service representatives, policy makers, and industry leaders. This collaboration is expected to lead to stronger partnerships and better-coordinated efforts in the future.
