On May 27, 2024, the Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) hosted a notable CEO’s Forum at the Hotel Marino Beach in Colombo. This event convened key industry leaders to explore pivotal issues and opportunities within the plantation sector. The forum focused on sustainable development, innovation, and the well-being of plantation communities, reflecting PHDT’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in these areas. PHDT chairman Mr. Barath Arullsamy delivered the welcome speech.
The forum featured esteemed keynote speakers: Mr. Lal Perera, Director General of PHDT; Snr. Prof. Udith K. Jayasinghe, Vice Chancellor of Wayamba University; and Dr. K.M. Mohotti, Director of the Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka.
Mr. Perera shared insights on PHDT’s ongoing initiatives to enhance the well-being of plantation communities. Prof. Jayasinghe discussed the role of academic partnerships in driving innovation and sustainable practices including KPI. Dr. Mohotti presented the latest research advancements in tea cultivation and their implications for the industry. Panel discussions highlighted strategies for economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility, fostering a collaborative approach to overcoming challenges and driving progress in the industry.
