Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) is a unique organization in the Tea World
The Plantation Human Development Trust (PHDT) was established on September 18, 1992, and renamed on October 10, 2002. It includes the Government of Sri Lanka (GOSL), Regional Plantation Companies (RPCs), and Plantation Trade Unions (TUs). PHDT aims to improve the lives of the plantation community.
Governed by a Board of Directors from GOSL, RPCs, and TUs, PHDT is led by a Director General. Its main office is in Battaramulla, with seven regional offices supporting various welfare initiatives. PHDT collaborates with government ministries, trade unions, RPCs, INGOs, NGOs, and private sectors. Key activities include Housing & Infrastructure, Water & Sanitation, Health & Nutrition, Child Care, Estate Worker Housing Cooperative Societies, Training, and Sports.
PHDT holds ISO 9001:2008 certification and has won several awards, including a Gold Award at the National Business Excellence Awards (2011) and recognition from SAFA and ICASL.
