Recognition of PHDT as a Diploma Awarding Organization

In 1977 the child development programme started as the first form of social development in the estate sector. A major component of this programme was the recruitment and training of young educated girls from the estates as well as adjoining villages as care givers. Since then we have undertaken many programmes to develop the existing Child Development Officers over a period of 20 years which resulted in transforming them from Pullemadu to Child Development Centres and the skills of this category have been enhanced. The PHDT together with the Open University and other relevant organizations collaborated to develop training curricula for basic and refresher training and pre-school training for estate Child Development Officers.

In 2006 a national committee was established by the Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Empowerment to evaluate the quality of the various training programmes conducted by different organizations in the country. This was to mainstream all child development programmes in the country in line with National Policy and Standards.

The PHDT is proud to state that the committee after much deliberation had decided to register the PHDT as an organization eligible to conduct Diploma Training Courses and to award Diploma Certificates which are officially recognized at national level.

Please await further progress in the near future.
